NAHB Chairman Lays Out Vision for Future of the Federation in New Video
NAHB Chairman Bill Owens, a home builder and remodeler from Ohio, describes his long-term vision for the NAHB Federation in the latest Chairman’s Update video. Owens has launched Blueprint to 100, a modernization initiative in anticipation of NAHB’s 100th anniversary in 2042.
“We can spend the next 16 years doing things largely the way we’ve always done them and show up at our 100th birthday familiar, comfortable and behind,” Owens said. “Or, we can deliberately decide to build an NAHB that is relevant, representative and respected for our centennial.”
Owens noted that while 16 years seems far in the future, the association needs to get to work today to truly modernize in a rapidly changing world.
The Blueprint to 100 is organized around three core priorities:
- Modernizing the NAHB Bylaws – NAHB’s governance and bylaws have served the industry well over the decades, but the industry has fundamentally changed, and more change is sure to come.
- Reviewing the Federation’s Membership Model – The current membership model used to be much more representative of the industry. But as the business has evolved, different solutions may be more appropriate.
- Developing the Next Strategic Plan – Although shorter term than the Blueprint to 100, NAHB’s next strategic plan will be the first to measure the work toward the modernization goals.
“When NAHB turns 100, I want membership to mean something again,” said Owens.
Owens noted that nothing will be done without the input of members and state and local HBA leaders.
