How to Navigate Immigration Reform and Enforcement on the Jobsite
Immigration policy is shaping the U.S. labor market as home builders adapt to ever-changing employment eligibility and immigration compliance requirements.
NAHB recently endorsed the Dignity Act, a comprehensive, bipartisan immigration reform legislation introduced in the House by Reps. Maria Salazar (R-Fla.) and Veronica Escobar (D-Texas).
The bill aims to modernize America’s immigration system by protecting the nation’s borders and preserving critical workforces. For example, the Dignity Act would create a new pathway for permanent work authorization for undocumented workers that meet a clear criteria, including:
- Complying with federal and state laws,
- Completing a comprehensive criminal background check,
- Paying back taxes,
- Beginning to pay income taxes, and
- Paying an annual restitution fee of $1,000 into a training fund that will develop the next generation of skilled American labor.
Helpful Immigration Enforcement Resources for Home Builders
