NAHB Urges House to Pass Senate Bill Reopening the Government

Buddy Hughes, chairman of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and a home builder and developer from Lexington, N.C., issued the following statement after the Senate approved legislation that would fund the government and the National Flood Insurance Program through Jan. 30, 2026:

“NAHB urges the House to quickly pass the Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act, 2026 (H.R. 5371), which funds the government and the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) through Jan. 30, 2026. As the shutdown enters its sixth week, NAHB has warned lawmakers that the lapse in NFIP funding is delaying all new home sales and insurance renewals for property owners who have federally backed mortgages for homes or properties in flood-prone areas.

“NAHB calls on Congress to retroactively reauthorize—and extend—the flood insurance program to provide certainty, predictability and peace of mind to policy holders who rely on the NFIP for flood protection and mitigation strategies.”
